President Museveni has said anyone can now be caught if they steal cattle by the security drones especially if they are raiding on a large scale.

He made these remarks shortly after meeting Karamoja leaders on Friday following a spate of raids in the region.

During the meeting, the leaders asked the president to order another disarmament in order to ease the insecurity in the area.

“I met leaders of the Karamoja sub-region to agree on the way forward regarding the resurging elements of insecurity in the area following a long spell of peace and stability ushered in through the efforts of the army under the NRM,” Museveni said in a tweet after the meeting.

According to the President, the youth criminal alliances are responsible for this attack on their own communities.

They steal cattle and keep them in kraals before selling them off in exchange for guns.

“First of all, I would like to warn these little criminals, that they have entered a field that we know so well, they are in trouble. No one plays with the peace of Ugandans. We defeated this crime with less army capacity before, now we have more capacity, you are doomed,” Museveni said.

He further said he has asked his people to employ tactics like Kraal-based intelligence in addition to security drones. This is to ensure that there’s an informant in every kraal.

Adding that the army is capable of reaching anywhere day or night in an hours time. The president said informants will be handed mobile phones to call security contacts in case of anything.

Museveni’s visit comes after numerous raids by cattle rustlers in which herders lost thousands of animals.

The raids also resulted in the death of raiders as a combined security force pursued them to recover the stolen animals.

Other criminal gangs had also cropped up in the region, targeting travellers through ambushes along various roads.
