The directive was announced on Wednesday by Gulu City Town Clerk Innocent Ahimbisibwe while addressing journalists at his office. Ahimbisibwe said the growing number of vendors selling goods on streets, walkways, and road reserves has caused severe congestion in the city.

He noted that the enforcement of the directive will be carried out with the support of Gulu City security officials and law enforcement agencies.

“Many vendors have taken over walkways and road reserves, making the city highly congested and unsafe for pedestrians and motorists,” Ahimbisibwe said.

The Town Clerk urged all street vendors, including kiosk operators and mobile money agents, to voluntarily relocate to designated markets or secure shops from which to conduct their businesses.

“Anyone who will resist relocating back to the markets after the two weeks will face the law,” Banya warned.

Authorities identified several highly congested areas affected by illegal vending, including Olailong Market Street, the parking area at Gulu Main Market, and shops located in front of the former Alobo Limited premises, among others.

City officials say the move is aimed at restoring order, improving traffic flow, and enhancing public safety within Gulu City.
