Homeland Media Group to Launch Training School in Uganda-Nasser Says

The Homeland Media Group Ltd, the holding company for The Homeland Newspaper, The African News Journal, Sseggwanga Olupapula and Homeland Broadcasting Network [Radio & TV] and Home of Advertising, Communication, Education, Marketing, Publishing, Printing and digital products and services has announced plans to start a training School and a center of excellence in the training and teaching of journalism, communication, Media, Business and Vocational technical education and skills development and Research mid-2021.

Addressing staff on Monday morning, at The Homeland Media Group offices in Kampala at Greenland Tower Kampala Road, Mr. Nasser Kasozi Akandwanaho who is director and also Chief Executive Officer of the institute [Homeland Media Institute-HMI] said, the HMI is part of the group’s efforts to transform and revolutionarise journalism, communication and media industry in Uganda and the East African region.

“We appreciate the role of journalism and media in voicing the concerns of vulnerable persons and putting those in authority to check and so we must value the industry by training more professional and dependable carders with competence and skills required by media houses….. We believe even other media houses need to benefit from our transformation because when the entire industry is demonized, we all go down,” Nasser said.

According to Nasser Kasozi, the Homeland Media Institute [HMI] would not only benefit practicing journalists but also other students aspiring to excel in the journalism profession and also get skills in technical areas to enable them create and run businesses. The school will train journalists and learners on how to excel in News writing, publishing, electronic media including television, radio and digital as well as production and other business and technical vocational fields.

Mrs. Nakamanya Lukayya, the Chief finance officer at The Homeland Media Group described the institute as a game changing initiative in the media industry in the country and the region at large.

“Experience is not the ultimate thing but training is also crucial. The Homeland Media Institute will provide opportunity for young journalists and students, ”Lukayya said.

Mr. Nasser Kasozi further explained that, with the launch of the training school, The Homeland Media Group Company will now be in position to dominate the media industry in Uganda and the region by training and incubating its own workers who will be part of the Growing media communication and publishing powerhouse of choice in the region.

At the same meeting, editorial changes were announced and some positions will be advertised to recruit potential employees who will help grow the Homeland media group to another in Editorial, Marketing, Training and Capacity Building areas.

Kasozi Nasser at the Meeting also announced that Kigongo Ronald be appointed to serve as Ag Principle of the Homeland Media Institute  [HMI]  until the Council and Board of directors decides otherwise, Other officers will be announced after recruitment process is complete.
