Following the weekend incident of Martha Mukisa, being ‘sexually assaulted’ by fans while performing in Masaka, dancehall female singer, Karole Kasita, has come out to reveal that she won’t stop dressing in her ‘Kwetega’ semi-nude way.

Although fans called her out, the “Binyuma” singer has maintained that she won’t change her dress code. She says that she will keep it unless she quits the music industry.

While speaking in an interview on local television on Monday evening, the ‘Balance’ singer noted that the only way to end the continued harassment is to deny fans access to artists during performances but not change the dressing code.

“Changing my way of dressing won’t stop sexual harassment. Event organizers must find a way to limit the easy access of the fans to the artistes. A gap should be created during these performances, “Karole Kasita said.

She further requested fans to control themselves before vowing that she would not stop dressing the way she wants.

“The fans have to come and watch us perform respectfully. They don’t have to touch the artists. When people say that such acts happen because we dress skimpily, it is encouraging these fans to continue harassing artists. I will not stop wearing what I want just because of some ill-mannered fans,” she said.

Various female artistes in Uganda have been sexually assaulted on stage, but the most memorable incidents are for Winnie Nwagi and Vinka.
