The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has told International students in all its campuses to take COVID-19 vaccine before 25th October, 2021 or leave the campus.

The University’s Dean of Students Dr Sulaiti Kabali says the move is aimed at ensuring that the students have complied with President Yoweri Museveni’s directive ahead of school reopening.

“As you are aware the President of the Republic of Uganda addressed the nation on 22nd September, 2021, and permitted the post-secondary institutions to open on 1st November, 2021. I wish to remind you that one of the conditions to be fulfilled was that each student should get vaccinated,” Dr Kabali says.

The university has asked the students to get vaccinated from IUIU health centre or any gazetted health facility.

“It is the responsibility of each student to get vaccinated from any gazetted health centre not later than 25th October, 2021. Otherwise, no student will be allowed to access hostels.

“However, the university health centre at the Main Campus has made arrangements to carry out vaccination at the University health centre on Monday, 11th October, 2021. Health centres of other campuses are urged to do the same,” the dean of students says.

The university has international students from several counties such as Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, Somalia, Comoros, South Sudan, Rwanda and Ethiopia. IUIU has four campuses namely Main Campus in Mbale, Kampala Campus in Kampala, Females’ Campus in Wakiso and Arua Campus in Arua.
