The Judicial Army of government has announced plans to accredit reporters covering Court proceedings as a way of strengthening Media relations and streamlining the reporting function of Court reporters in Uganda.

According to the official document from the Judiciary Communications and Public relations registry released by the Public Relations Officer Mr. Jamson Keremani on Tuesday March, 28th 2023, the process is intended to reinforce and streamline the relations between the Judiciary and the Media to foster information sharing and ease accessibility to Court premises by the reporters under the Umbrella Association.

“This is in line with resolutions made during the breakfast meeting held between the Chief Registrar and Court Reporters on March 29, 2022. In Line with the above, the Judiciary Communications and Public relations Registry has commenced the process of accreditation of Court Reporters,” the letter reads.

The Letter as well states, that the Accreditation exercise will run for two weeks starting April 1st, 2023, and each Media house is required to nominate not more than six personnel for purposes of this function.

“Journalists are therefore requested to submit a typeset application by email or hand delivered detailing their Name, Media house, designation and Court/regions to cover by April 15, 2023, with an application letter, photocopy of work ID, a recommendation from Employer/Editor/Assigning authority and Passport Sized photo.” Jamson Keremani adds.

Upon accreditation, a Court Reporter’s Identification Card will be issued to each Journalist and the same will be picked from the Communications Office at the Judiciary Headquarters on a date to be communicated.

The Judiciary now joins the Parliament of Uganda as another Arm of Government Accrediting Journalists covering its proceedings.
