The Rt. Honourable Speaker of parliament Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has asked the government to explain what they have done to a section of security personals attached to the Local Defence Unit (LDU) who have made it a routine to torture and brutalise residents.
“It is time for the government to explain what they have done to LDUs that have tortured, beaten and killed people, WE NEED ANSWERS,” Kadaga said while presiding over the house on Wednesday this week.
Kadaga’s demanding for answers comes in a period after Joseph Luzige, the Mityana District LC5 was allegedly beaten up by the security personals who were alleged to be attached to LDU on Tuesday this week.
“Torture has always been inflicted on our people. If they can brutalize our own Chainman in our own district not Masaka or Kasese, but here???” Esther Ndyanabo the Mityana Municipality Mayor wondered.
For most of the times, members of the public have been complaining of the brutality that have been inflicted on them by LDUs who allegedly hide in the slogan of ‘Implementing the [residential Directives’
Jacqueline Nagasha from Masaka was shot by an LDU officer while she was heading for an antenatal care in Masaka Regional Hospital on a bodaboda.
Close to a week now, social media has been a washed with criticism after the public allegations that Emanuel Tegu a third student of IT at Makerere University was killed by LDUs.
