The speaker of parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has on Thursday launched a magazine focusing on the Adaption, engagement and evolution of parliament in rapidly changing common wealth countries.

The book titled The 64th CPC at the Pearl of Africa focuses on building strong and knowledgeable parliamentarians who are unique and capable of getting valuable opportunities to network with legislators for shared learning and to build diplomatic relations.

Speaking to legislators at parliament, Hon. Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga said being part of the team that complied the report, they encountered some challenging in gathering some information especially pictures that were included in the magazine.

“I want to thank the whole team for   managing to put together this legacy magazine, when we were planning the come up with the 64th CPC, we found a hard time to make the past meet the present, some records were not available so we had to dig into the archives of the Uganda August of 1967 to get pictures of the 13th CPC which took place in Uganda” said speaker Kadaga.

She added that in the new parliament building that is being constructed, there are plans to include a museum were all records will be kept and there will be no need of scratching heads while looking for relevant information.

The clerk to Parliament, Mrs. Jane Kibirige, said the publication of this Magazine will enhance Uganda’s role in the CPA and it will continue to sell the country in the years to come.

Mrs Kibirige thanked the 64th CPC and executive committee members of the CPA Uganda branch for their comments, constructive critics and guidance during the completion of the publication.

Mrs. Hellen Kaweesa the Public Relations officer at parliament and the acting Director CPC  said following the conclusion of the CPC in September 2019, the CPC executive committee Uganda branch was tasked by the CPA to produce a high quality document including all activities that took place in the conference in September 2019.

“We were tasked to produce a high quality document and it is the one you are seeing. We divided ourselves into different teams each team having a different task and in so doing we started holding meeting mostly virtual, we shared the challenges and this has made it a unique product”, said Kaweesa.

Mrs. Kaweesa added that the challenges faced during the publication were mostly with the designers who were not reliable and also lacked enough experience in what they were doing.

Hon. Jalia Bintu, the chairperson CPC thanked all participants and the executive Committee consisting of Hon. Okupe Elijah, Hon Oboth Oboth, Hon Semeo Nsubuga, Hon Patric Nsamba and Hon Betty Nambooze for the good work done in preparing the 64th common wealth parliamentary conference that took place at Speke resort Muyonyo in September 2019 and ensuring that the magazine is well document.

This magazine is the first of its kind in the history of hosting the CPC and it gives a cultural of hope that can be promoted across the CPA countries.
