Uganda will host the 64th Commonwealth Parliamentary Summit in September, Speaker Rebecca Kadaga has said, and it will use the event to market the country.

Speaker Kadaga, who returned to office Friday , resumes work and made her first public appearance having been away for over a month due to illness. spoke at the official launch of the web portal for the event.
Having been missing in parliament for over a month, Speaker Kadaga has today, Friday officially bounces back to resume normal business for the first time.

Kadaga launched the 64th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference website in her boardroom. The launch of the website is one of the activities slated ahead of the upcoming 64th Commonwealth parliamentarians’ conference taking place in Kampala from 23-29th September 2019 under the theme: “Adaptation, Engagement and Evolution of Parliaments in a Rapidly Changing Commonwealth.”

“I thank God that He has enabled me come back on time to launch Commonwealth conference website,” Kadaga said. Kadaga said that the website-http://www.cpc2019.org/ will help facilitate interaction and also provide a guide to the about 1000 delegates who are expected to attend.

Kadaga launched the website by sending an email to the chairperson Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Emila Lifaka.

“Dear Emilia, greetings from Kampala. All is well this end and arrangements for the 64th CPC in high gear. I just want to let you know that today the website for the 64th CPC is live now on www.cpc2019.org and is ready for use,” Kadaga’s email reads.

Kadaga spent one month and some days away after she slipped into a coma after her return from a 10-day hectic working tour to Morocco and the United States of America on March 21, 2019. Kadaga’s press secretary Sam Obbo in a statement attributed his boss’ sickness to “hectic work schedule, fatigue and jet lag” and was subsequently admitted at Nakasero Hospital before she was flown to Agha Khan Hospital, Nairobi two days later. Kadaga returned from Nairobi on April 13 and has been resting from her home in Kampala.

The website, www.cpc2019.org will also be used to publicise the key features of Uganda and will be used as a primary source of information on all activities of the conference.

During the summit, Kadaga said, a number of issues affecting the legislatures across the world will be discussed.

Uganda last hosted the conference in 1967.
