Banura, a son of Maj Gen Matayo Kyaligonza, was involved in the crash at Kiziranfumbi along the Hoima–Kagadi road. Preliminary reports indicate that a speeding taxi lost control and rammed into pedestrians, hitting Banura and several other people.

Authorities confirm that Banura had briefly stopped by the roadside to engage with residents when the incident occurred. He was rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The crash is reported to have caused multiple casualties. Early information suggests that at least five people may have died, although official confirmation of the full number of fatalities is still pending. Several injured victims are currently receiving treatment at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital.

District officials and security agencies have yet to release a comprehensive statement on the cause of the accident, but investigations are underway.

Banura had recently been re-elected as Kikuube LC5 chairperson, making his sudden death a major loss to the district’s leadership.

More details are expected as authorities continue to gather information on the incident.
