BUYENDE-His highness the Kyabazinga of Busoga William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV on Saturday led hundreds of trekers in climbing Kagulu Rock Challenge 2022. Among the participants was the speaker of parliament Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga to the Peak of Kagulu Rock. This Rock is one of Busoga’s major tourist attractions with a height of 3600ft located in Buyende District.

Speeking after completing the trek, the Kyabazinga of Busoga thanked president Museveni for supporting tourism promotion and development in Busoga Kingdom. He Particularly sited out the central government contributions towards the construction of staircase to the top of the Rock.

The Rt Hon Kadaga, called on Basoga to refrain from selling off their land noting how valuable it is endowed with Minerals. She cited the discovered rare earth minerals in Mayuge, Bugweri and Bugiri which are estimated to be the largest in Africa. Kadaga informed the people of Buyende about the presence of granite minerals which are used in the production tiles, dust stones for construction of roads among others.

The chief organizer of the kagulu Rock Challenge Owek. Hellen Olga Namutamba thanked the people of Busoga for honoring the invitation to join HRH the kyabazinga for the challenge. She thanked all the sponsors who supported the organization of the challenge such as the President of Uganda, Rt Hon. Kadaga, Buganda Kingdom, Buyende District LG, NBS Group, Baba group, Busoga One, Hill Water among others.

She however decried the refusal of Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) to support the cause despite their heavy contributions towards Tourism promotion and development in other regions of Uganda.

The District chairman of Buyende Mr. Kanaku Micheal Applauded Busoga consortium for the role played in strengthening unity among the leaders of Busoga for development. He thanked the kyabazinga for providing Land towards the establishment of recreation facilities such as Hotels at Kagulu. He also thanked Rt Hon. Kadaga for the hospitality facilities at the site.

Members present included the area members of Parliament Hon. Magogo Moses, Hon. Nakato Mary, Hon. Kisa Steven from Luuka South, HW the Mayor of Jinja City Kasolo Alton, District Chairpersons, DG Busoga Consortium Mr Mula Anthony, Undersecretary Local Government Mr. Amagaza Benon Moses and Many others.
