Uganda Police force confirms arresting two corps over negligence of duty.  The fire that gutted Makerere University two days back destroyed the records building and the office of the vice-chancellor.

Police Spokes Person Fred Enang confirmed the development while speaking to journalists at the media centre in Kampala.

Enang said “we have arrested two officers one from the police who claimed to be at the duty, and another security guard who was found asleep.”

Enang further said that they also got the footage of the library side to further help the investigations and find out whether there were some people who could have engaged in the outbreak of the fire.

Enang also stressed that they will be joined by UMEME teams from Kawempe branch, Forex services and experts from the government analytical laboratory to support the investigations.

Furthermore, on enforcement of the SOPs, Enang warned timid police territorial commanders who have failed to curb the violators of the regulations that were issued by the ministry of health and warned them that they will take sanctions over their laxity in enforcing the guidelines.
