Victoria University has officially welcomed Ms. Meera Ruparelia as the new Representative of the Directors to the University Council, following her swearing-in on 16th April 2026.
The appointment comes in the wake of the tragic passing of her brother, the late Rajiv Ruparelia, a visionary Director whose contributions significantly transformed higher education in Uganda.
University officials described the transition as “a new chapter of leadership” while reaffirming their commitment to the values championed by the late Rajiv Ruparelia – innovation, grit, and experiential education.
In her inaugural remarks to the Council, Ms. Meera Ruparelia pledged to build on her predecessor’s legacy and position Victoria University at the forefront of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
She emphasised the importance of strengthening ties between academia and industry to produce graduates equipped for the demands of a rapidly evolving economy.
“Ms. Meera steps into this role with a deep understanding of the institution’s mission,” a university statement read. “We are confident that her appointment marks a steadfast commitment to the values her father championed.”
Victoria University, located in Kampala, has positioned itself as a key player in Uganda’s higher education sector, known for its practical, industry-aligned programmes. The late Rajiv Ruparelia was widely credited with driving the university’s growth and modernisation efforts over the past decade.
The management expressed gratitude for the late Director’s immense contribution to the transformation of higher education in the country and extended congratulations to Ms. Meera Ruparelia on her new role.
“We look forward to her guidance as we continue to shape Uganda’s education system,” the statement added.
The appointment is seen as a continuity measure aimed at maintaining institutional stability and momentum at a time when Uganda’s universities face increasing pressure to produce job-ready graduates amid technological disruption.
Industry observers view the move as a positive signal for the private university sector, which has grown rapidly in recent years but continues to navigate challenges related to quality assurance and relevance in the 21st-century economy.
Ms. Ruparelia, who brings family continuity and fresh perspectives to the Council, is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing Victoria University’s strategic objectives in the coming years.
