Police in Kyankwanzi District have launched investigations into a disturbing incident in which two men were lynched by an angry mob after a woman’s body was reportedly discovered in their house in a suspected murder case.

The incident occurred in Kiryanongo Village where residents turned violent after finding what authorities described as human remains inside the suspects’ residence.

According to Lameck Kigozi, the Wamala region police spokesperson,  the two men, identified as Ssemasaka and Hakiza Damaseni, both adult males of Rwandan origin and residents of the village, were attacked and killed by a mob after villagers allegedly discovered a human body inside their house.

Police say the deceased woman was identified only as Vensi, a resident of Nakabugo Village who was known in the area and had reportedly gone missing for some time before the incident.

Kigozi explained that suspicion began when a neighbour noticed an unusual and disturbing smell coming from Ssemasaka’s house.

“A neighbour reported a strange smell coming from the suspects’ house. This prompted residents to alert other villagers, and they decided to conduct a search inside the house to establish the source of the smell,”Kigozi said.

During the search, residents reportedly made a shocking discovery.

“When they entered the house, they found a human body packed inside a sack with one of the legs protruding,” Kigozi said. “They also allegedly discovered pieces of chopped human flesh in a saucepan that appeared to have been prepared for cooking.”

The disturbing discovery triggered outrage among residents who immediately turned on the two occupants of the house.

“The villagers became extremely angry and attacked the two men, beating them to death before police could intervene,” Kigozi added.

The chairman of Kiryanongo Village later reported the incident to police at Bananywa Police Station.

Police officers led by the District Police Commander for Kyankwanzi visited the scene and began investigations.

The bodies of the three deceased individuals were transported to Ntwetwe Health Centre IV for postmortem examination.

Authorities say investigations have been opened into both the suspected murder of the woman and the mob killing of the two suspects.

Police have condemned the act of mob justice and urged members of the public to allow law enforcement agencies to handle suspected criminals through legal procedures.

“We appeal to the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands,” Kigozi said. “Whenever there are suspicions of criminal activity, residents should report to police so that proper investigations can be carried out.”

The case remains under investigation as police work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
