In 2018, President Museven came to Mbarara at Abubakar Mosque and pledged about 250m the money which has never been paid. Therefore Moslems and legislators have come out and requested the President to fulfill his promise to cover up embarrassment.
On a fundraising function that was held on Friday this week at Abubakar Mosque in Mbarara City, about 40 MPs from different constituencies of this country turned up towards the fundraising for the construction of a six stalled complex at Abubakar Mosque. Over 120m was collected from this fundraising.
This function was organized and hosted by the Mbarara City South Member of Parliament, Mwine Mpaka and his counterpart MP Rita Bwahika. They organized it to support the construction of a complex at Abubakar Mosque.
During the function, it was learnt that the president had promised 250m as pledge towards the construction of a 5b complex but up to now, nothing has ever been paid from the office of the president. Now its about 4 years since the pledge was promised.
Francis Mwijukye, the MP for Buhweju constituency reflected on the fact that the president promised 250m for the Moslems, and further said that as MPs especially those of Opposition have the power to task the president to fulfill his pledge.
He added that they will openly tell the president to pay his pledge before he is embarrassed. “For us we don’t fear to tell the president, We shall tell him about the 250m he had pledged to the moslem community of Mbarara. This money is really need to push some work on this project I have seen here. We shall tell him how aggrieved the Moslems of Mbarara are about the his pledge. By the way, I will support you with 3m and 50 bags of cement to support your project” said Mwijukye.
Sycilia Ogwar Atati, the Dokoro Member of Parliament also said that she is committed to task the government to ensure that the money which was promised by the president should come and do its work that was pledged for.
” I want to promise you that if your MPs Mwine Mpaka, Rita Bwahika, and Francis Mwijukye coordinate with me we’ll try and put pressure on the government to make sure that the money which was promised for this project by the president should come. Because sometimes we elders should go in now, why are young ones should struggle, we elders have also to come in to make sure we all stand together and have our money from the president to come and build our mosque” said Ogwar.
On the same function, the Rwampara East Member of Parliament, Julius Tusiime Karuhanga asked for unity amongst the religious faiths.
He said that religious communities must ensure that there is unity between them and start working together, supporting each other to achieve God’s will.
“Today is a milestone and it’s a manifestation that we are one, it is a manifestation that Uganda is for God, it is a manifestation and affirmation of our constitutional obligation that we must believe and cherish our faith regardless devoid of any division. Therefore we congratulate the plans that the district khadi has here because they are bringing development in our city in that the building that is going to be put here has an element of business and also an element of faith. This is anchored that it will help our religious institutions to be economically empowered” said Tusiime.
Shek. Mohammad Mukwaya, the District Khadi for Mbarara City said that it’s true that the President had promised a pledge of 250m towards the construction of the Moslem complex but nothing has yet come.
He added that they have tried many ways to remind the president about his pledge but no response ever since then. He requested the president to fulfill his pledge to enable the smooth construct of the project.
