President  Museveni has acknowledged the role of content creators in Uganda’s wealth creation chain, pledging Shs5 billion to support a SACCO for organised groups within the sector.

Speaking on the importance of promoting local products, Museveni described what content creators do as modern sales promotion — helping people discover goods and encouraging purchases.

“What you are calling content is sales promotion for people to know about goods and people buy it. That should be supported, especially if you are promoting local products. Then you become a useful partner,” he said.

Museveni encouraged creators to package Ugandan products effectively for both local and international markets, adding that government support would be available for those organised in groups.

“If you have got groups doing that, we shall support them,” he said.

The President explained that this approach is not entirely new. Traditionally, companies spent heavily on television and radio advertising to market products. He cited the example of Nytil, a textile brand made in Jinja in the 1960s, which was widely promoted across East Africa.

“In the chain of wealth creators, a layer of operators has come up to use social media as an easy way of communication to package and present products to the consumers. That is useful,” Museveni said.

The proposed Shs5 billion injection into the SACCO aims to strengthen content creators’ capacity to professionalise their operations, expand their reach, and contribute meaningfully to Uganda’s economic growth.
