President Museveni has asked people to fully utilise their God-given talents to cause development in their homesteads and in the country.

“I congratulate you for concluding the year and for celebrating Christmas. Thank you for loving and respecting God.

It is good for all of us. Religion played a big role in waking up the people. I call on you to fully utilise your talents.

“I am happy to note that you are committed to God and are engaged in income generation,” he said.

According to the State House press statement, the President made the remarks during Christmas Day prayers at Nshwerenkye Church of Uganda, Kenshunga Sub-county, Kiruhura District. The prayers were led by Rev Mesaach Kihondwa.

The President, who was accompanied by his wife Janet and other family members, also observed that in 1986, Ugandans did not know that there was wealth in cattle keeping.

Museveni said today citizens have been taught to produce milk and grow bananas, sugarcane and several other products in order to create wealth for their families.

President Museveni commended Ugandans for participating in sustained efforts to eradicate poverty from their homesteads, adding that the country enjoys abundant output of agro products.

Museveni said that in the past, Uganda used to import milk and butter but currently, it imports infant milk worth $100 million per year, a situation that should be reversed since the country is experiencing excess milk production. The President revealed that plans are underway to process more products from milk and ethanol from maize.

President Museveni urged Ugandans to always carry out careful calculations on the projects they choose to undertake.

He also asked the people of Kiruhura District and neighboring areas to concentrate on rearing exotic cows that are capable of producing at least 20 liters of milk per cow per day.

President emphasized that cattle farmers need to grow sufficient pasture in order to ensure better and profitable dairy undertakings.

Other issues Rev Kihondwa described Christmas as great celebration of the savior who came to liberate and reconcile humanity with God after the fall of man.

President Museveni criticized acts of same sex marriages and wondered why those so-called unions should merit description of human rights.
