The government has moved to shut down New Best Hotel in Busega over alleged involvement in pornography-related activities, warning that stronger enforcement action will be taken if the facility fails to comply with national laws.

The warning was issued by the Pornography Control Committee, led by Annet Kezaabu, which said the hotel has repeatedly been cautioned over reports linking it to the production or facilitation of explicit content.

According to the committee, management of the facility has been engaged several times, but concerns have persisted.

“We have engaged and warned the management several times. If there is no change, stronger enforcement action will be taken, including possible closure,” the committee said in a statement.

New Best Hotel in Busega is widely documented as an establishment allegedly facilitating paid sexual activity on-site.

Officials say the case is part of a broader crackdown on establishments suspected of promoting or enabling pornography, with authorities vowing that enforcement will be applied uniformly across the country.

The committee noted that such environments are often associated with wider social concerns, including exploitation and exposure of young people to harmful content.

The development comes amid intensified efforts by government agencies to curb the spread of obscene material both online and offline.

The Uganda Communications Commission has been conducting parallel operations targeting digital platforms accused of distributing explicit content.

Authorities say the enforcement drive is also aligned with the implementation of the National Ethical Values Policy, which seeks to promote moral standards and protect vulnerable groups, particularly children.

Government has reiterated that all individuals and businesses must comply with existing laws, warning that those found in violation risk closure, prosecution, or other legal action.
