The Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, Dr. Tanga Odoi, has banned the use of musicians at campaign rallies, warning that bringing entertainers, especially popular artists from Kampala to individual events disrupts the party’s joint campaign programme.

Speaking to at the NRM headquarters , Tanga Odoi said no candidate is allowed to use musicians to attract crowds during campaign activities, even if they have been granted special permission to campaign alone.

“Even when you are cleared to go it alone, you must not disrupt others by taking musicians to your campaign. Carrying big artists from Kampala to your village rally only disturbs the campaigns of fellow aspirants,” he warned.

Odoi noted that the Electoral Commission has observed attempts by some candidates to turn political meetings into music shows, causing confusion and undermining the purpose of joint rallies. He made it clear that such actions will not be tolerated and offenders will be reprimanded by the party.

Reaffirming the NRM’s position, Odoi stressed that joint campaigns are mandatory for all parliamentary aspirants, both constituency and district women MPs, unless one is officially granted an exemption.

So far, only the Vice President Rtd Maj. Jessica Alupo, the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja , and a few ministers organizing for the party Chairman’s visit have been allowed to hold separate rallies. Even they, he said, must submit their campaign schedules to district election officers for coordination.

“No one should use special permission as an excuse to cause chaos or gain unfair advantage. Respect the Commission’s guidelines or face consequences.” Odoi said.

Meanwhile, the NRM has also postponed its internal elections for parliamentary flag bearers. Originally scheduled for July 16, the primaries will now take place on July 17 to allow space for the National Electoral Commission to conduct elections for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), which fall on the same day.

Dr. Tanga Odoi urged all candidates to adjust their schedules accordingly and remain disciplined throughout the process.
