The Ruling National Resistance Movement [NRM] has on Sunday voted and endorsed former Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah as candidate for speaker of the 11th parliament.

The decision has been reached after a meeting of the Central Executive Committee that has been held at State House Entebbe.

Oulanyah has for the past ten years been Ms Rebecca Kadaga’s Deputy.

Kadaga has served in capacity of Speaker and Deputy Speaker for the past twenty years.

The decision followed a long stalemate in the NRM party organs as top officials kept squandering with support for their different candidates.

The decision of the Central Executive Committee had been expected on Saturday evening. However, the decision was deferred to Sunday morning.

The Decision of the Central Executive Committee will be communicated to the NRM Parliamentary Caucus today as the election of the new Speaker of Parliament nears.

Voting of the new speaker and the deputy is slated for Monday 24th May at Kololo Independence Grounds. Other candidates in the race include Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, Richard Ssebamala and Juliet Kinyamatama.

It is not clear whether Kadaga will run as an independent in the race, by press time had called for a press conference at Hotel Africana we shall keep you updated of any development……
