The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has on Thursday declared Lydia Wanyoto Mutende party flag bearer for Mbale City Woman Representative.

Lydian Wanyoto beat incumbent Mbale Woman MP Connie Galiwango Nakayenze after a recount of the last concluded primaries.

Wanyoto was Thursday handed the NRM flag after garnering 36,281 votes against Galiwango who got 19,113 votes.

Wanyoto got 8, 220 votes against Galiwango who got 241 votes from the residual election, John Woniala, the returning officer, told Daily Monitor.

Connie Galiwango boycotted today’s exercise questioning the procedure used to determine the cells for residual election and accusing the Mbale City NRM electoral commission of bias. Galiwango  had also vowed to contest as an independent.

She warned that if the powers that be go ahead and declared her opponent the NRM flag bearer, the race will then be decided by the Mbale voters who know whom they want against the one who claims she has been sent.

Hon. Connie Galiwango is threatening to contest as an Independent if she is rigged out

“We want to see that one who claims that she has been sent, sent by who?” A visibly furious Galiwango told the media.

Its should be remembered that Connie Galiwango is the wife to former NRM Director of Finance Haji.Galiwango who left the party secretariat on allegations that Wanyoto was behind his woes.

In the just-concluded elections, Connie Galiwango defeated Lydia Wanyoto in the NRM Elections which elections Wanyoto protested in appeal to the NRM elections tribunal that later overturned the elections of Connie on issues still questionable.

President Museveni NRM chairperson recently expressed anger and disappointment on how the NRM party elections committee leadership handled electoral issues that have torn the apart party as rich and influential people are bribing their way to victory.
