National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is now set to commence a water supply project bound to cater to over 3000 people in the Naggalabi-Buddo region.

This follows an approval from King’s College Buddo and the Buganda Land Board for planned water supply works aimed at aiding the corporation’s ongoing endeavour to tackle water supply issues.

The project, targeting an area long plagued by water scarcity due to its challenging hilly terrain, will begin the first phase with the construction of a 150 m³ steel reservoir tank, which will be supplied by a borehole to be drilled at Nasonve, approximately 1.2 kilometres from King’s College Budo, and this tank will only cater to the school.

Earlier in preparation, a delegation from NWSC’s Kampala Water Region, led by Chief Manager Water Supply, Eng. Francis Kateeba, convened at King’s College Budo with representatives from the project’s contractor, Oriental Business Group Ltd, and the school’s administration: The Headmaster, Mr. John Fredrick Kazibwe, Deputy H/M, Mr. Godfrey Kasamba, and Deputy H/M Welfare, Alice Galiwango.

In response, Eng. Kateeba acknowledged the significant challenges posed by the region’s hilly terrain and confirmed that the long-awaited project, which will involve the construction of a 150-m³ steel tank exclusively for King’s College Buddo, is set to begin immediately. Raised at 15 meters on Buddo Hill, this tank will be supported by a borehole to be drilled at Nasonve, approximately 1.2 kilometres from the school, and will ensure that the school has a dedicated and consistent water supply.

In addition to the school’s tank, NWSC plans to build a 500 m³ community tank at Naggalabi, which will be supplemented by a new pump with a capacity of 150 m³ per hour to be installed at Buddo. The project also includes the laying of a 4-kilometre DN200 pipeline from Buddo Pump to Naggalabi, with half of this pipeline already completed.

The Managing Director of Oriental Business Group Ltd., Mr. Isaias Berhe, assured all stakeholders of the project’s timely completion, aiming for a two- to three-month timeline. Following the meeting, the team conducted a site visit, finalised measurements, and selected access routes. After which, the school administration officially handed over the site to the contractor, with construction set to commence on August 31, 2024.
