President Museveni will tomorrow Friday 26th August attend the grand commissioning of the Regional Communication Infrastructure Program (RCIP) and e-government services exhibition as chief guest.

The function will be held alongside the International Youths day celebrations under the theme; “Harnessing ICT for youth participation in the implementation of the Parish Development Model”

According to the NITA-U managing director Dr. Hatwib Mugasa, NITA has organized the launch and an e-government Expo Exhibition at Kaunda Grounds in Gulu City from 26-27 August 2022.

“Following a two months campaign that has seen successful commissioning of key government ICT infrastructures and e-services across different regions of Uganda, NITA-U shall on Friday 26 August 2022 unveil to the country the key nationwide achievements of the Regional Communication Infrastructure Program (RCIP),” Dr. Hatwib Mugasa said.

The event is expected to attract different stakeholders from both public and private sectors such as MDAs, Innovators, and Academicians among others to showcase their potential in the ICT industry.

He also said that under RCIP, NITA-U has registered significant success with all the set project objectives 100% completed.

“The project lowered prices for international capacity and reduced the cost of internet Bandwidth for government from 300 USD per Mbps per month in 2016 to 70 USD per Mbps per month which has translated into a competitive advantage with internet pricing being 56% cheaper when benchmarked against the regional pricing and therefore more affordable for Uganda,” Dr. Mugasa said.

Dr. Mugasa also said that a total of 1,606 Km of Optical Fibre cable have been added on to the Government National Back Bone Infrastructure (NBI). This has increased connectivity to a total of about 725 Ministries Departments and agencies (MDAs), District Local Governments (DLGs) and other target user groups.

The Government has also installed across the country an additional 300 Wi-Fi sites in the major cities and towns as well as 25 Data Transmission sites along the National Back Bone (NBI) with all the sites connected to Off Grid Energy (Solar)
