The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Isingiro, Ada Nasiima, has ordered the arrest of several National Resistance Movement (NRM) sub-county registrars over allegations of misappropriating more than Shs 90 million meant for party mobilisation.

Following a closed-door security meeting on Friday, Nasiima told journalists that her office had received over 10 complaints from youth accusing the registrars of diverting the funds.

Nasiima stated that the party allocated over Shs 90 million to youth at the sub-county level to support mobilisation during the recently concluded party primaries and that investigations are still ongoing, and those who fail to provide accountability will be arrested.

She added that the probe will be extended to cover other funds allocated to special interest groups and elders. Moses Mushabe, Isingiro District NRM chairperson, said all registrars implicated in the matter must either show accountability or report to police to record statements.

He emphasised that party guidelines were clear, the money was to be handed to registrars, who were then expected to distribute it to youth in their respective sub-counties. Mushabe, however, urged the aggrieved youth to remain calm and avoid protests, promising that due process would be followed.

According to Juma Gumaoshabe, NRM youth flagbearer for Isingiro Town Council, some action has already been taken. He revealed that over five registrars have been arrested and handed over to the police to record statements.
