Abigail Atuhaire 13, a pupil of Rich Dad Junior School, Najjanankumbi, who scored 4 aggregates attributes her success to good teachers and studying online especially Zoom, which helped her pass exams successfully.

“I admitted that due to Covid-19 pandemic, I must learn how to study online in order to pass my PLE since there was no ways of meeting teachers face to face in class and study,” she says.

Atuhaire adds, “Studying on Zoom helped me to complete the syllabus on time, and I was able to get enough time for revision. This helped me to pass with flying colours. My teachers also encouraged me to revise and inquire some assistance from them.”

She says, although studying online has been helpful, but it had challenges of Network failure especially on Zoom lessons. Zoom has also been expensive in terms buying data on daily basis.

“When Zoom became too expensive, we resorted to downloading work on WhatApp but it also needed teachers’ guidance and it’s hard to ask questions on WhatsApp. However power failure could also disrupt my studies online especially Zoom,” Atuhaire says.

She says although the network on zoom was poor, she tried as much as possible to concentrate on her studies and revise her books.

Atuhaire’s dream is to become a doctor in future and wants to join Kings College Buddo.

Rich Dad Junior School, which was the best school in Kampala district, had 20 candidates and they all passed in first grade, contributing to 100 percent success.

Other pupils that passed in division one at Rich Dad Junior School include Rashimah Muleme (5), Idris Naimah Kyosimire (5), Farid Bulega (5), Rayhanah Nassinde (6),Shahid Kalungi (6), Maria Assumpta Namugenyi (6), Hani Kamoga (6), Hanifah Namagga Bukirwa (6), Fatumah Nalugo (7) and Saabiqah Umar Nassali (7).

The Director of the School Hajj Twaha Lubega attributed the school’s success on good relationship between teachers, pupils and parents.

“During lockdown, we never stopped teaching. All our candidates were studying online and the parents were supporting pupils at home in terms of studying online. Even the environment at school is good which encourages pupils to study well,” he says.

A total of 749,761 candidates sat PLE in 2020, over 80,000 of them passed in division one, although Uneb withheld 2,220 results which are still under investigations of examination mal practices.

According to Uneb, more pupils passed 2020 PLE, compared to 2019, despite disruptions caused by Covid-19 pandemic. zuraneetah2015@gmail.com
