The Criminal Investigations Directorate-CID says it has made leads on the terrorisers of Greater Masaka locals and arrested some.

On Thursday Grace Akullo, the Director of Criminal Investigations Directorate-CID directed a team of detectives on ground to investigate the increasing deaths.

In a space of 2 months,19 persons have been attacked and killed by unidentified machete-wielding goons.

Charles Twine, the CID Spokesperson, says police patrol teams have deployed heavily and progress is being made.

He explains the arrests:

” We have so far identified and arrested some suspects and are still hunting others. The arrested suspects have been connected to the scenes of crime and they have made confessions, but we want to execute investigations based on science so that our people in Greater Masaka can enjoy peace,”,

Twine has meanwhile connected the gruesome killings to land conflicts, domestic violence, witchcraft and isolated cases of robberies.

He notes that they have identified 4 cases that look to be the work of organized criminals.

On Tuesday,Brigadier Deo Sande, the Commander of the Masaka Armoured Brigade, announced that they had launched joint operations with the police to hunt down the assailants.

He also mentioned that they received intelligence information about the racket and are following various clues that may lead them to the killers.

has dispatched a team of investigators to probe the root cause of the resurgence of the mysterious killings in Greater Masaka areas.

The latest victim of vicious attacks was a sixty-year-old Anent Nampijja Muwangaza, a resident of Kasaali village Bisanje Parish, Kabonera division in Masaka .

Nampijja was attacked at an outside Kitchen at home by 7:50 pm on Wednesday night.

Prior to this,Fred Ssemanda,28, a resident of Bukulula village in Mateete town council in Sembabule district was murdered on Tuesday night.

3 others who were killed in Ssettaala village, Ssenya parish, in Kimaanya-Kabonera division in Masaka city, on Monday night.

Masaka has previously been a hub for mysterious murders,in 2016 and 2018, dozens of people lost their lives in similar attacks prompting the interventiton of the then Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura.

This led to the arrest of some suspects and their subsequent prosecution.

It is still unclear whether the recent attacks are connected to the previous incidents to date.
