Bukomansimbi South Member of Parliament Hassan Mukiibi Sserunjogi has called on residents to elect capable and development-oriented candidates in the forthcoming Local Council I (LC I) elections, regardless of their political party affiliation.
Sserunjogi made the appeal during a community meeting at Kamaanda Village in Kibinge Sub-county, where he met residents to discuss challenges affecting the area.
Kamaanda is among the villages in Bukomansimbi South that residents say have lagged behind in development, with lack of access to electricity cited as one of their biggest concerns.
Addressing the gathering, the legislator said leadership should be judged by a candidate’s ability to deliver services rather than their political affiliation.
“Do not base your vote on political parties. Elect leaders who have the ability, commitment and willingness to serve your community. Development should come before politics,” Sserunjogi said.
The MP endorsed several candidates contesting for LC I chairperson positions in different villages, saying he believed they would work with him to improve service delivery in Bukomansimbi South.
In Kamaanda Village, he urged residents to support NRM candidate Nyanja, saying he was confident the candidate would help drive development in the area.
“If you think Nyanja is just a small pond, remember that every pond comes from a larger lake. I will stand with him and ensure that together we deliver services to this community,” Sserunjogi said.
He also appealed to voters in Makukuulu Village to elect NUP candidate Mpinde and encouraged residents of Kalubaya Village to support Mukoreya, saying the candidates he endorsed had the capacity to serve their communities effectively.
Sserunjogi pledged to work closely with the elected village leaders to ensure government programmes and development projects reach local communities.
“Give me leaders who are ready to work with me, and together we shall deliver whatever our people need. Strong local leadership is essential for bringing development closer to the people,” he said.
The MP also promised to continue lobbying for the extension of electricity to villages that remain off the national grid, including Kamaanda.
Highlighting ongoing projects in the constituency, Sserunjogi said construction of Kisojjo Health Centre had already begun and that electricity expansion to Kassebwera Parish was underway.
“Our transformation plan for Bukomansimbi South has already begun. We started by constructing the health centre at Kisojjo, and we are now expanding electricity to Kassebwera Parish so that more families can benefit from improved livelihoods and economic opportunities,” he said.
Residents welcomed the MP’s visit and raised concerns about inadequate infrastructure, limited access to electricity and other service delivery challenges affecting their communities.
The meeting formed part of Sserunjogi’s ongoing constituency outreach programme aimed at assessing local needs, monitoring development priorities and encouraging residents to participate in the upcoming village leadership elections.
