Logic calls for unity of opposition in diversity

With just a few days to the Presidential nominations, the just concluded nominations at local government and parliamentary levels is enough to conclude that if opposition political parties must succeed, there is need to supplement or complement each other.

Pride, arrogance and excitement aside, let’s look at our own numbers of candidates fielded at both Local government and Parliamentary levels! The success of political parties largely depends on such an infrastructure. There is no magic.

Unity of opposition may not necessarily rotate around fronting a single candidates for each elective position since it’s late to engage in such a debate with the game ongoing.

The most important thing is to align and redirect the thinking of the opposition candidates at all levels to focus on a big picture of causing regime change.

How? Each candidate and his or her team must know their role to play. It’s not only about winning or retention of their political seats.

That has been done previously and nothing has changed. This serves to those whose only survival is in politics without which things become tough. This category of leaders continue to be a misplacement in opposition.

In the previous elections, some opposition candidates in the perceived NRM strongholds would be heard telling voters to vote for them and a President of their choice president Museveni.

In addition such candidates are on record of undermining opposition efforts even at the time of retrieving DR forms and deployment of agents. Be aware of state sponsored candidates well positioned and with influence in opposition.

Lastly, after nominations we must be honest to ourselves to admit to the fact that we are not everywhere as single opposition parties but we can be everywhere as joint opposition parties hence the need to supplement or complement each other’s efforts.

Our continued hostilities against each other, exhibiting and fighting for supremacy in opposition only aids president Museveni’s early victory in 2021.
