The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has banned the airing and distribution of the trending song “Mukube Paver” by emerging artist Dynaso Wegoso, citing concerns that it promotes violence.

In a statement, UCC said it had received multiple complaints about the song’s content and its influence, prompting a review of both its lyrics and video.

“The song explicitly and implicitly promotes, incites, and glorifies violence and aggressive conduct,” the Commission stated.

UCC also expressed concern over a growing trend on social media, particularly among young people, who are imitating actions associated with the song.

“The song has triggered dangerous imitation behaviour, including a rising trend of harmful ‘challenge’ activities on platforms such as TikTok,” the statement added.

As a result, the Commission has directed all broadcasters to immediately stop airing or distributing the song.

“All broadcasters are to immediately suspend the airing, broadcasting, and distribution of the song ‘Mukube Paver’ on their platforms until further notice,” UCC ordered.

The ban also extends to online platforms, with internet service providers and social media companies instructed to remove the song and block further uploads.

UCC warned that sharing or promoting the banned content could result in legal consequences.

“Members of the public are hereby notified that the sharing, promotion, or distribution of prohibited content is an offence under the law,” the Commission said.

The artist, Dynaso Wegoso, has been summoned to appear before the Commission on April 16 to address the matter.

UCC stated that the move is intended to protect public safety and promote responsible content that upholds national values.
