Uganda Misses a Strong Opposition Party!

Opposition is very much necessary for the proper functioning of government. Bad habits are everywhere; Bad “leaders”, too. NUP has nothing to offer — It’s a basket case.
With a reasonably strong opposition, the government would not have been able to wriggle off the hook on political disasters like:
1.Too much borrowing and slowing down of economic growth.
2.Drone abductions and kidnappings
3.Unnecessary closing of schools during Covid and Ebola
4.Disastrous implementation of Bona Bagagawale, and other policies
5.The so called Muhoozi tweets, especially ones against Kenya
6.Rigging of byelections in Kayunga and elsewhere
7.E.t.c.
Now, these are all opportunities for the opposition to make their presence felt, but this has not happened. The current leader of NUP hasn’t disappointed– he’s exactly what some of us expected after the elections.
Online activism which used to be about criticizing govt policies, is now about insults, fake news, announcing live people dead, music and drama, weddings,  e.tc
The young vibrant FDC activists we used to interact with,  have all gone silent. Byabatama!
There were some stray shots fired by FDC on various issues recently, but they were drowned out pretty soon. Besigye has been having productive Saturday live videos, but the following is small.
The NRM leadership has performed badly since elections, and the other parties have either been coopted or made irrelevant.
What is coming before 2026, and we will all suffer brutally, will not be necessarily brought about by petty conflicts between opposition parties, but by the fact that there’s literally no opposition in Uganda at the moment. We are more like a one-party, one-family rule, and it seems everyone has given up.
That’s why I predict that more people are going to cross to NRM as we near 2026. Norbert Mao seemingly moved on, and I see more ( old and young) joining him, unless something miraculously happens.
The leader of the opposition, Mpuuga, has been given statutory status. He rarely criticizes the policies/acts made by the government.
KWEGAMBA STRUGGLE YO ELABIKA NGA EYAFA NE ROBODA STYLE WANALELO!
