Uganda’s VP Ssekandi Launch Homeland Newspaper, urge Journalists to be patriotic

The Vice President of Uganda Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi has called upon the Media to be responsible, factual and patriotic in serving the public by pointing out the wrongs shortcomings and promote unity and smooth co-existence of all people and communities.

In the speech that was read to him by Alex Onzima the Minister in charge of Presidency during the launch of The Homeland Newspaper in Kampala on Friday 29th November, Ssekandi said that the media has to rely on facts and some ethics of Journalism like the principles of impartiality and fairness in reporting.

“Without the truth, even these principles are greatly undermined and the public usually left to speculate and in most cases giving room to alternative views and fake news” Ssekandi said.

He added that, “The media has an obligation to be patriotic in its operations, projecting society’s positive image, working for the greater good in public and National interest”.

According to Ssekandi, media houses should publish or broadcast news which is factual, in-depth and well analyzed with greater interests in the government priority areas of Patriotism, Pan Africanism, Leadership, Health, Entrepreneurship, Environment, Climate Change, Culture and Sports.

He also pledged the government’s continued support to the media towards the full realization of these aspirations which the framers of the constitution are desired.

“The NRM government finds in the media a strong ally in the promotion of human freedoms including freedom of speech and press as enshrined in the constitution”.

The Homeland Newspaper and Website https://www.homelandmedia.co.ug are among the first project of The African Journalism Institute for International Affairs (TAJIIA).

The African Journalism Institute for International Affairs (TAJIIA) is a Uganda based non-profit organization registered in Uganda as a company limited by Guarantee.

It was established with an aim of enabling Journalists and media workers acquire skills and tools needed by promoting professional excellence through news production, training, research, networking and instilling cross-cutting issues and international relations and diplomacy among the journalists and media workers in Africa.

Nasser Kasozi the Team Founder/Leader of The African Journalism Institute for International Affairs (TAJIIA) said that The Homeland Newspaper and Website https://wwww.homelandmedia.co.ug have been established with a good intention of giving the public well researched information with the aim of sharing stories and information that promotes human development  and encourages innovation and helps finding new ways of telling and sharing the unique stories about our homeland Uganda and the world.

We aspire to create a newspaper that provides innovative multimedia platform that is dedicated to creating and sustaining uniquely Ugandan online and mobile communities excite them with career pathways, give them skills that promotes business and offering news media services that are created by passionate people to enrich the lives of our customers around the country.

“In future we shall also establish both a radio and Television stations to ensure that the public is well exposed on the perspective of our beloved country Uganda” Nasser said.

According to Kasozi, the Newspaper shall be publishing weekly every Monday.

In response to the question “Why The Homeland Newspaper?” Nasser Kasozi answered: Africa is a land of opportunities.it is a continent which is rising. But why can’t we hear what the Africans have to say, not only on African affairs, but on world affairs too? The demand for unbiased news is unmet. There is gap to fill. This is why we are launching the homeland newspaper to pioneer independent news from the African perspective; a new adventure starts for a fully-fledged pan-African network whose unique mission is empowering people through independent and reliable news.

Nasser further added that, The Homeland Newspaper and the African news Journal adheres to the same editorial charter as its sister channel and news platform guaranteeing its independence. The homeland newspaper is striving to deliver factually-correct information in anon-superficial format. Uninfluenced by political interest, The Homeland newspaper team of more than five professional journalists and technicians from different tribes and specialities work together to serve the homeland audience, driven by an uncompromising journalism.
