Victoria University one of the Uganda’s leading private institution has announced new plans to make university education affordable to all Ugandans by reducing tuition fees by 50 per cent to enable its continuing and prospective students cope with the economic shocks caused by the outbreak of COVID-19 Pandemic.

Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia Ruparelia Group Chairman, revealed that the cuts that take effect in September this year will run for the next two or three years until the economy stabilizes when all parents are able to pay tuition or manage students as they used to be.

“The effects of the pandemic will be here for the next two or three years. The structure of fees will remain stable in shillings for a long some time to come, and we will in the next two or three years review in consultation with the student body, the council and the market,” Said Dr. Ruparelia.

Victoria University Uganda sofa is the first educational institution to take such a bold step of ensuring Ugandan students have access to quality and affordable education.

Rajiv Ruparelia the Director Victoria University told The Homeland Newspaper that,the decision to reduce the fees was taken by the council and management considering the disruption and challenges caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

“Therefore we as Victoria University a great institution of high learning believes that, the Quality of education should be affordable to all students irrespective of nationality so as to be able to attract more students, and learners, we hope that many will be admitted and we promise to give them the best education in a well-equipped and technologically oriented campus in the heart of Kampala city” Rajiv said.

Rajiv Ruparelia further said that, following the current unfavorable economic indicators which are not good to Ugandans, Victoria University has decided to use the opportunity to give back to the community by reviewing its fees and tuition policy where a 50% adjustment will be done across all courses and programmes off study.

Rajiv Ruparelia confirmes that, students at Victoria University will now be able to attain a course of their choice for as low as UGX1, 500,000 only.

“This reduction in cost of education was tailor made to support the Government effort to build a better society post COVID-19, foster innovation and create positive social and economic impact by providing high quality education to Ugandan and the international community,” said Rajiv Ruparelia.

Dr. David Byatike Matovu the Chairman of the University Council, said the institution decided to give support to all students and help them a achieve the best by having access to quality and affordable education amidst the challenges caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Dr. David Matovu said that, Victoria University realizes that quality education should be accessible by all and therefore has taken a drastic positive step to ensure this by making tuition reductions for the already hard hit economies of the East Africa region and beyond.
