National Unity Platform President Robert Kyagulanyi has directed the Mukono Municipality member of Parliament Betty Nambooze to do whatever it takes and stop the Mukono NUP District chairperson elect, Rev. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa, councilors planned meeting with president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of NRM.

History has it that, Nambooze and Bakaluba Mukasa all crossed from the Democratic Party [DP] and the National Resistance Movement [NRM] respectively to join the National Unity Platform [NUP] late last year for political convenience in order to retain their seats and remain relevant in politics. Their main intent for joining the National Unity Platform was to win Political Positions within Mukono District, According to a NUP member who preferred anonymity.

Rev.Bakaluba Mukasa who had lost to Nambooze severally won NRM’s Hajji Haruna Ssemakula in a highly contested election to become the LCV elect for Mukono District.

Now the President sought to meet the NUP team led by Rev. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa in Mukono as part of his efforts to harmonize ground with opposition for better service delivery.

Upon receiving news that Bakaluba Mukasa and his councilors were planning to meet President Museveni, the NUP Party Leader Robert Kyagulanyi reached out to Betty Nambooze, the NUP Chairperson for Mukono to help stop the meeting.

It is not clear whether Bakaluba will heed to Nambooze’s pleading to call off the Museveni meeting. Watchdog Uganda, a popular news site in Kampala reported on Friday that Bakaluba is already committed to working with President Museveni to “Deliver Mukono services”.

Rev.Bakaluba Mukasa is said to have made the deliberations while meeting the Mukono North outgoing Member of Parliament Ronald Kibuule.

In an interaction with Betty Nambooze, the Mukono-based Insight Post reported that Nambooze confirmed reports of the said Bakaluba – Museveni meeting and that was tasked by his party President to stop the Museveni encounter.

“I have received instructions from the NUP party president to convene a very urgent meeting to sort out some matters. As you are aware MPs are ex-officials of this assembly so we expect everyone to attend without fail.”

Earlier this week, President Museveni posted a photo on his Twitter account claiming to have met several NUP coordinators countrywide in a bid to build bridges with opposition parties. However, NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi and Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi dismissed the claims as untrue and baseless.
