The National Water and Sewerage Corporation customers can now bypass traditional service queues by using the utility’s digital self-service portal to manage their water accounts and monthly bills.
The transition to a digital-first approach allows users to handle everything from bill viewing to real-time payments from their computers or mobile devices. The process is designed to be user-friendly, requiring only three steps to gain full access to account information.
Setting up your digital account
To begin using the self-service features, customers must first navigate to the official portal or download the NWSC mobile app. The setup process follows these steps:
- Sign up: Users must activate their digital profile by entering their customer number, which is located on any previous physical water statement.
- Secure your account: The system prompts users to create a unique password to ensure their billing and payment data remains private.
- Access services: Once the account is active, customers have unlimited access to their monthly bills and a complete history of their transactions.
Features for bill management
The portal provides more than just a digital copy of a statement. It serves as a comprehensive tool for monitoring consumption. Customers can view their water usage patterns through visual graphs and generate account statements at any time.
The platform also includes a bill predictor tool, which helps users estimate their upcoming costs based on their current meter readings. To ensure timely payments, the system sends e-bills directly via SMS and email as soon as they are generated, reducing the risk of service disconnections due to delayed physical mail.
Making payments online
A key benefit of the portal is the integration of various payment methods. Customers no longer need to visit a bank or an NWSC branch to settle their balance. The platform supports mobile money services, including MTN MoMo and Airtel Money, as well as Visa and Mastercard payments.
According to NWSC, nearly 98 percent of all customer payments are now handled through these electronic channels. This shift has significantly reduced the administrative burden on physical branches while providing customers with a more convenient way to stay on top of their utility expenses.
