Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has called on the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, to issue an apology to the Buganda Kingdom over an audio clip circulating on social media.
The audio allegedly captures Speaker Among commenting on “defeating Buganda” in relation to the contentious Coffee Amendment Bill.
Speaking to the media, Lukwago emphasized the importance of supporting initiatives like ‘Emwanyi Terimba’, which promotes coffee production in Buganda, and condemned any attempts to interfere with the enterprise.
“We condemn the circulating audio purportedly showing Speaker Among obstructing the voting process on the Coffee Amendment Bill, and we demand an apology,” Lukwago said.
The event also served as an official ceremony for the Buganda Kingdom to present newly appointed chiefs for the Kyadondo region.

In the Photo: Hajj Magandazi Matovu was introduced as the new chief, with Ronald Bukulu and Dr Phiona Kalinda appointed as his deputies.
Second Deputy Speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko, Ahmed Lwasa, officiated the occasion on behalf of Buganda Kingdom Premier Charles Peter Mayiga.
The newly appointed chiefs took their oaths, pledging to work with Buganda Kingdom officials to preserve and promote Buganda’s heritage.
Among the officials attending the event at Kyadondo headquarters in Kasangati, Wakiso District, were Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Wakiso Woman MP Betty Ethol Naluyima, and other local government and Buganda Kingdom leaders.
The leaders voiced their opposition to the government’s recent directive to reintegrate the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) into the Ministry of Agriculture, stripping it of its autonomy.
They argued that coffee production is integral to Buganda’s identity and has significantly boosted household incomes among the Kabaka’s subjects.

The new Kabaka Chief, Hajji Magandazi, expressed gratitude to Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II for the opportunity to serve, pledging to promote the interests of the Buganda Kingdom in Kyadondo and beyond.
He succeeds the late Agnes Nakibirige Ssempa and joins a lineage of Kyadondo chiefs dating back to Kamya Lugonvu, Toffiri Male Okwezza, and Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule.
Additional leaders appointed to various roles include Lubega Amina for agriculture and tourism, Kimbowa Daisy Wanyana for unity, Dr Zaitun Yahaya for culture and norms, Kimbugwe Agnes for women’s affairs, Muddu Thomas for youth, Kawooya Hamidu for trade, Ssengendo David Enock for land and housing, and Jaffer Senganda for projects and development.
