Several officials and members of the leading opposition party, the  National Unity Platform (NUP) are on the run after fears of facing jail with the Uganda Police Force and other security organs mounting manhunt of all those allegedly to have been involved in Omoro by-elections violence.

Already a multiplicity of members are under detention after indiscriminate raids by security personnel. Unfortunately, many of the detained cannot be traced while those who are chanced to be known of their detention, have been barred from accessing their families and lawyers.

The latest punishment the opposition is faced with is their individual members’ participation in Omoro parliamentary by-election where a new MP was elected after the death of former Speaker Jacob Oulanyah, was won by  Mr Andrew Ojok Oulanyah(NRM) and son to the late.

However the polls were marred by violence and counteraccusations between NRM and NUP and many opposition members are still in hiding.

According to the NUP spokesman and Nakawa East MP, Hon Joel Ssenyonyi many of their members are rotting in jails and castigated the government for the witch hunt.

In  related development security is hunting for several members alleged involed in the 2020 pre_ national elections violence many of whom have since gone underground.

A security source told our  writer that many of  people including miss Agirabirungi Phiona who worked at NUP headquarters jumped the  bond and must be brought to book.

A resident of Rubaga Division and the NUP Central region coordinator, Agirabirungi was nubbed and locked up in Mpigi before her family negotiated a conditional release.

Her other workmates were equally tortured  and charged while others are on the run and being sought by authorities.

Meanwhile the member of parliament for Butambala Hon Muwanga Kivumbi has warmed government for unspecified number of people rotting in dentions over multiple riots and activism.

Muwanga was echoing NUP party president Hon Bobi Wine who recently castigated the government for keeping well over 2000 party members and opposition innocent Ugandans in detention.

Muwanga said many people are still in hiding over suspected participation in the famous 2009 , 2016 and 2020 riots.
