The Management of National water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has registered steady progress in the implementation of the Kampala Water–Lake Victoria Water and Sanitation (KW-LVWATSAN) Water Supply Network Project (Package 2B), a major infrastructure initiative aimed at improving water supply across the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA).

The Senior Director for Planning, Performance and Capital Development, Eng. Paddy Twesigye, recently led the Package 2B project team, including Project Manager Eng. Herbert Mujuni, on site inspections and the 16th project progress review meeting to assess ongoing works.

According to NWSC, construction activities are progressing well across key project components. So far, 11 kilometres of the planned 68.5-kilometre pipeline network have been laid. Four construction teams are currently deployed along the Kira–Kasangati, Lugoba–Nansana and Kabulengwa–Wakiso pipeline corridors to accelerate implementation.

At the Kabulengwa Booster Station, the roof slab has been successfully cast and is undergoing curing, while works at the Kanyanya Reservoir Site are advancing with the installation of drainage pipes, construction of inlet valve chambers and steel reinforcement works for ground beams.

The project forms a critical component of NWSC’s broader strategy to rehabilitate, restructure, rezone and expand the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area water supply network, with the goal of increasing access to clean and safe water in Wakiso District and surrounding areas

Eng. Herbert Mujuni, Senior Manager for Infrastructure Planning and Development and Project Manager for the scheme, said efforts are underway to ensure that some residents benefit from the project ahead of its overall completion date.

“Whereas the entire project is scheduled for completion in July 2027, efforts are being made to ensure that some customers in Buwate, Kasangati, Gayaza and surrounding areas start receiving water as early as January 2027, since the pipeline serving those areas is being expedited,” Eng. Mujuni said.

Once completed, the project is expected to significantly enhance water access, improve service reliability and support the growing demand for water services within the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.
