Pope Leo XIV has issued a powerful global appeal for peace, urging nations to end wars and reject the use of weapons in his 2026 Easter “Urbi et Orbi” address, according to Vatican News and international media reports. Delivering his message from the Vatican during one of the most important celebrations in the Christian calendar, the Pope called on world leaders to embrace dialogue and compassion as the only meaningful path to resolving conflicts.

In a message that resonated across political and religious boundaries, the Pope warned against what he described as the growing normalization of violence in today’s world. He stressed that reliance on military force, conquest, and domination risks deepening global divisions and prolonging human suffering. Instead, he urged leaders to adopt approaches rooted in mutual understanding and moral responsibility.

International news agencies, including the Associated Press and Reuters, also reported that the Pope emphasized the urgent need to move away from war-driven strategies and toward peaceful solutions. His remarks come at a time of heightened global tensions, with multiple regions facing ongoing conflict and instability, making his call for dialogue particularly significant.

The Pope further cautioned against indifference to human suffering, highlighting the dangers of societies becoming desensitized to violence and loss of life. He encouraged individuals and nations alike to take active roles in promoting peace, noting that lasting change begins within communities and personal choices before it can influence global systems.

Linking his message to the spiritual meaning of Easter, the Pope described the resurrection of Jesus Christ as a symbol of hope, renewal, and the triumph of life over death. He called on Christians and people of goodwill around the world to embody these values by working toward reconciliation and unity in their daily lives.

As part of his broader peace appeal, the Pope also announced a global prayer vigil scheduled for April 11, inviting people worldwide to come together in prayer for an end to violence and the restoration of peace. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by the Vatican to encourage both spiritual reflection and concrete action in response to global crises.

The 2026 Easter address stands as one of the strongest statements yet from the Pope on the need to reject war and prioritize dialogue. By reinforcing the importance of compassion, unity, and shared humanity, the message underscores a growing international call for peaceful solutions in an increasingly divided world.
